Autumn 2009 Update From Thursday Scouts

This term is nearly over but we have had a very busy few months with quite a few activities outside. The term started with a walk on Churchdown hill where a few scouts managed to do some very creative map reading.

The next major event was when a group of scouts when for a mini expedition roughly along the Wye valley.  We stayed at Welsh Bicknor Youth Hostel and this was part of the Expedition Badge. The Night we were at the Youth hostel coincided with JOTI (Jamboree on the Internet) so we set up a few laptops and connected to the internet via a GPRS connection and the Scouts managed to talk with other scouts all over the world. The following day was fantastic weather and we had some amazing views from Symonds Yat:

The next highlight was fire lighting and as normal 3 fires were produced in quick time and large numbers of marshmallows were consumed.

After playing a trading game at the beginning of the year the scouts decided they wanted to raise some money for less fortunate people so they decided to do a sponsored silence. The scouts managed to keep silent for 60 minutes and hopefully we should raise around £50 for Oxfam.

Just recently we went skiing and had a very good time.
